DiCon Fiberoptics, Inc Announces New MEMS Tunable Filter

March 13, 2007

RICHMOND, CA - March 13, 2007 - DiCon Fiberoptics, Inc., a leading manufacturer of fiberoptic components, modules, and test equipment, announces its new MEMS Tunable Filters. The MEMS Tunable Filters are the latest additions to DiCon’s growing family of Reconfigurable Network Elements, designed to help OEMs and Network Operators more easily manage their networks at the wavelength level. The new modules will be introduced at OFC 2007 in Anaheim, CA March 27-29, 2007, in both 100GHz and 50GHz configurations.

The Tunable Filters are based on DiCon’s proprietary MEMS Mirror technology, providing low insertion loss, high levels of optical performance, including low PDL, low power consumption, and a compact, cost-effective form factor. These Tunable Filters operate in either the C or L bands and are particularly useful in applications such as ASE noise suppression, wavelength selection, signal tracking and optical performance monitoring. The MEMS Tunable Filters will form the basis for DiCon’s Optical Channel Performance Monitor (OCPM) modules and they can also be integrated into DiCon’s General Purpose Test and Measurement Platform for test automation applications. DiCon’s MEMS devices are manufactured at DiCon’s in-house MEMS wafer fab, and offer industry-leading performance and reliability.

“By applying our proprietary MEMS approach to tunable filters, Dicon is able to revolutionize the function of wavelength selection by replacing older, bulkier technologies for tunable filters. Our goal is to provide the necessary optical components and modules to make wavelength management easy for the next generation of dynamically reconfigurable networks” says Dr. Ho-Shang Lee, CEO of DiCon FiberOptics.
